Nick J. Milazzo

I was asked to speak this morning but in a panic declined for all kind of reasons that made perfect sense to me.  That wasn’t cutting it with Nick.  I felt him relentlessly nudging me to speak, not my words but his words, to the VIP’s in this church. 

Of course, this allows me to preface what I’m about to share with a disclaimer…if I mess up it Nick’s fault!

It’s no secret Nick loves football.  I remember as if it was yesterday, meeting Nick’s head cheerleader pick some 27 years ago.  Patti Novak, she couldn’t have been any cuter…and WOW, what a smile right up there with Farrah Fawcett & Christie Brinkley, the all-American girl next door. What a catch. From there, his team grew…along came Alyssa Marie.

Fond memories of stories of Nick taking his little girl to Bears and sports conventions to meet players and gather autographs.  We can all agree Nick is cute but Alyssa is way cuter and he would capitalize on that…sending her over to the players of choice to ask for their autographs and with much pride, she never disappointed him. They were a father/daughter team to behold.

Team Milazzo, welcomed Salvatore Joseph to the team in 1997. True fishing buddies. And boy, did he love watching his boy play sports.  I witnessed for myself his dedication for being there for his son.  Even if he had to watch him play from his parked car … nothing stopped him from cheering Sammy on.

Sammy, your dad wants to put your mind at ease…he is not expecting you to take over as the head of the family.  He raised you to be the head of your own family when the time comes, he doesn’t expect you to be a great man BUT he does expect you to be a GOOD man.  There is a difference…not all great men are good.  Save him a spot when you head out fishing that’s where you will feel your dad’s spirit the most and it will bring you peace. 

Team Milazzo, continued to grow, Annamarie Ellen joined the team in 2006.  Didn’t see that coming…what a priceless addition.  Nick’s MVP pick for being mature beyond her years…her future is bright and she will thrive.

Michael DeSantis, will join the team with pomp and circumstance on September 10, filling the position of team attorney.

No team is complete without a mascot. Ronda, filled that position in 2015.  She has been and will continue to be a loyal and comforting pup to Team Milazzo.

As for the fans of Team Milazzo … heed these words:

Death is nothing at all. It does not count. I have only slipped away into the next room. Nothing has happened. Everything remains exactly as it was. I am I, and you are you, and the old life that we lived so fondly together is untouched, unchanged. Whatever we were to each other, that we are still. Call me by the old familiar name. Speak of me in the easy way which you always used. Put no difference in your tone. Wear no forced air of seriousness or sorrow. Laugh as we always laughed at the little jokes that we enjoyed together. Play, smile, think of me, pray for me. Let it be spoken without an effort, without the ghost of a shadow upon it. Life means all that it ever meant. It is the same as it ever was. There is absolute and unbroken continuity. What is this death but an inconsequential accident? Why should I be out of mind because I am out of sight? I am but waiting for you, for an interval, somewhere very near, just around the corner. All is well.  ( by Unknown)
